Join Crichton Casbon, Education Consultant, at this year’s conference to develop your understanding of the three stages of assessment.

Who is Crichton Casbon?

Crichton Casbon M.Ed (Curriculum Studies) is an internationally recognised expert in the physical curriculum.

Recognising the exceptional ability of physical activity to bring happiness, health and success, Crichton’s passion drives his esteemed work in the sector as teacher, advisor, researcher, author and consultant.

Crichton is a curriculum designer with a specialism in Physical Education.

Crichton managed the implementation of the secondary curriculum in England for QCA and directed the PE and School Sport (PESS) project as part of the Government’s national strategy for PE and Sport. Crichton has led the development of three national curriculum programmes of study in PE, national schemes of work and co-authored a book on assessment in PE. A former teacher of PE, geography and English, he has also worked as an LEA Adviser for PE, a School Improvement Adviser and an Ofsted inspector.

A lifetime’s experience within the world of PE and the physical curriculum lends Crichton a unique expertise and wealth of knowledge which he’ll be sharing in his workshop at this year’s conference. 

What will the workshop cover?

The workshop will take you through a process to support your understanding of the 3 stages of assessment and its central role in teacher’s planning and children’s learning. You’ll be shown:

  • How to set your expectations of what children learn and make progress in
  • How to use assessment to help children make rapid progress
  • How to spend minimum time and effort for maximum impact on children’s learning and development

To help you develop or adapt your assessment, you’ll gain a range of valuable resources.

As part of the workshop, you’ll gain a range of resources which you can use to develop or adapt your assessment.

To help you put the knowledge and understanding you’ll gain into practice, this workshop is linked to a practical workshop taking place on the day. The practical session is ‘Assessing within a PE Lesson’ which will be run by Jon Davies, Operations and CQA Manager at Aspire Active Education.
