One of my all-time favourite sports movies is “Happy Gilmore,” in which an ex-hockey player, played by Adam Sandler, takes up golf and uses a driving technique that is half golf drive and half hockey slapshot. It’s a technique that’s unlikely to be effective. Or is it? In fact, Fox Sport Network’s “Sport Science” studied Happy Gilmore’s technique to see if it could actually yield more driving yards.

Time to Get Off the Couch Again

Let me start this confession by saying that I have never really enjoyed running. From the variety of sports I played as a youth, I always figured out how to be good while not having to run too much. I was the finest defensive sweeper in my AYSO soccer league. Relying on short sprints and a strong leg to blast the ball down the field, I was never out of breath during a game.
