I play old-men’s pickup basketball with a crew that meets every Tuesday night during the winter. Our oldest members are in their 60’s and have been partaking of this weekly ritual for decades. But there are also some younger guys in their 20’s who play with us. Of course, there is some friendly trash-talking about old men and their ability to play the game (usually coming from the old men themselves).

Partnering on Organ Donor Awareness. “Play ball!” 5-year-old Nolan Bryant yelled out as he called the start of a San Francisco Giants baseball game. It was a tall order for a kindergartner, especially since Nolan was still recovering from a liver transplant 10 months earlier at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Nolan represented organ donor recipients at the San Francisco Giants’ 23rd Annual Organ Donor Awareness Day on Sept. 14, also known as Donate Life Day.
