PIZZA DELIVERY – Beware of the Pizza Pokers

Pizza Delivery Tag is a game sure to put smiles on your students’ faces. It’s a controlled, slower-paced tag game perfect for small and large groups. I’ve posted two versions (see videos below) of the games along with a photo with the basic directions.

Mission:

It’s Friday night and the pizzeria is slammed. Everyone is ordering pizza for delivery. The staff needs to quickly deliver the pizzas before they get cold.

Set up:
  • One noodle for each student
  • Place 2-3 baskets of Frisbees or discs on one side of the gym
  • Place 2-3 empty baskets along the wall on the opposite side of the gym
How to Play:

Each student begins the game with a noodle. I like to keep an inventory of noodles cut in half. This makes them more rigid and perfect for other tag games in smaller spaces.

Round 1:

Students practice delivering the pizza by placing a disc on the noodle and walking it across the floor to the empty baskets. If the disc falls off the noodle or the disc is touched during the delivery, the pizza deliverer needs to return to the pizzeria and start again. Once all the pizzas are successfully delivered, it is time for round two.

Round 2:

Introducing the PIZZA POKERS! For round two I select ONE pizza poker. A pizza poker is a person who tries to prevent the deliverers from delivering the pizza. Pizza pokers use their noodle to either poke the pizza off the deliverers’ noodles or poke the bottom of the deliverers’ noodles causing the pizza to fall to the ground. When this happens the delivery is terminated and the deliverer has to return to the pizzeria to start again. Once all the pizzas are delivered it is time for round three.

For each subsequent round, I either change pizza pokers or add an additional pizza poker to increase the level of difficulty.

Below is a video for the same game with the addition of toppings for the pizza. The pizza deliverers can add up to two toppings to each pizza for an extra challenge. For the toppings, I use noodle bits (pieces of noodles).

Pizza delivery tag is one of my favorite tag games to watch. To hear and see the excitement puts a smile on my face.
