Happiness Factories Part 2 with Phil Mathe

Welcome to this week’s blog post. As part of my blog, I release four episodes per year of The Changing Rooms podcast. The shows, available in video format and audio only, feature conversations with prominent PE colleagues about pressing PE issues. In series 1, I interviewed Lee Sullivan, author of Is PE in Crisis, I interviewed Phil Mathe, author of Happiness Factories, I interviewed Shrehan Lynch, author of Social Justice in PE and I also hosted the first ever episode of the Debate Project where the teaching of concepts through the PE subject domain was debated.

Now, I am delighted to introduce you to Series 2 of The Changing Rooms Podcast. This year’s first episode features the return of Phillip Mathe (pronounced math-ay). Phillip is an international PE teacher, senior leader and author. His first book “Happiness Factories” hits the Amazon listings in the coming days and I had the opportunity to sit down with him and talk and listen for an hour. This is always a privilege.

Phil’s show is a great listen and, indeed, must be listened to by any colleagues interested in physical education curriculum design and physical education teaching. Phil has brought together the stories of over 20 physical educators from all over the world as well as sharing his own. If you want to know how PE curricula are delivered across the world, this book and this podcast are for you.

Happiness Factories is officially launched on Friday 28th October via John Catt Publications. If you are reading this post prior to that date, you can pre-order the book right now...

I urge colleagues to purchase Happiness Factories and, more, to share their views on social media of what Phil has provided. The PE sector needs people like Phil. We need authors to research, to write and to review and this happens when we, as a sector, engage with their work and give them the momentum to research more… to write more… to reflect more.

The show is available as a video on YouTube or podcast on Spotify.
