What’s up Phys Ed Fam!
Today, we’ve got a fun game to share with you that your kids will love. You can use it for a warm up activity, or a Field Day Game!
Check out the video below to see an overview of the game and then read the post for the breakdown:
The Cone Flip Mixer
I like to use this game as a way to work on good sportsmanship and practicing the art of winning with grace and being a good sport when you lose as well.
For starters, you’ll want to pair up your students, if there’s an odd number you can also have a 3 group if you want.
Each pair of partners will take turns cone-flipping until there is a winner.
Why cone-flipping?
Because kids love to do it!
This is a spin on the Bottle Flip phenomena that got so popular a few years ago.
It’s a fun alternative to Rock, Paper, Scissors, which you can do instead of the cone-flipping if you want, but kids really love the cone-flip.
The first player to land the cone upright is the winner. Partners then handshake, fist bump, or high five, and say “good game.”
Winners will stay and raise their hands. I normally also have the winner do 5 jumping jacks before raising thier hand as well.
The losers will jog one time around, get back in the game, and find a new partner to play.
Play is never ending, so you can choose how long you want the activity to go for, I normally do about 3-5 minutes.

Modifications
- Tie after 10: If needed, you can say a game is a tie after 10 flips. For a tie, after players have shaken hands, fist-bumped or high fived and said “good game,” they both jog one time around and find new partners.
- Change the exercise: Change the jog/jumping jacks to pushups, squats, curlups or anything you want.
Field Day
The time we play this game is as one of our Field Day Stations (Overview of how I run my Field Day Here).
I’ll make a few lines of students. Each line is a team. In front of each team is a line of 6-7 (more or less can work as needed) cones.
The front person from each team runs to the first cone, and gets one try to flip it so that it lands standing up. After the flip, they run to the back of their line, and the next person in line runs out once their hand gets tagged.
When a team member gets the first cone standing up, they run to the back of the line, and the next team member tries to flip the next cone.
The first team to have all cones in their line standing is the winner!
Kids love this game, you can check out an example of us playing it on field day in the instagram post below:

GM, do you have the directions for Bocce Ball to share? Also, how many whiffle balls do you use for each team and what is the distance between the starting line and the hula hoop for each grade level?
Thank you
I appreciate you sharing.

Hey Tameko,
No rules on Bocce, but I did find this video that explains the rules. I will link it below:

Hope this helps!
Not sure what you’re asking for about whiffle balls and hula hoops.
