SHAPENJ 2022 Conference

Slow Chat PE

The whirlwind of SHAPENJ’s 103rdconference is over for me. It started early on Super Bowl Sunday. A handful of dedicated people showed up before the convention in order to get the registration booth organized, set up the convention hall, and do the other million things that need to be done at the last minute. Once this was done we were able to breathe and get ready for the Super Bowl!

Reimagine the Role of PE to Reconnect With Your Students

Speaker: Jeremy Kellem, M.Ed. - Educational Strategist, Former Athlete, and CEO/Founder of W.I.N. (We Impact Now, LLC)

For many students, physical education is critical to becoming active and developing healthy routines. But how is this possible anymore with the repercussions of the pandemic? Years of COVID-19, social distancing, and virtual learning have all had a profound effect on students, which means educators need to adjust their classes accordingly. The good news is that P.E. can still play a vital role in helping students intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially.

Connecting is something you do and can practice getting better at, particularly the art of listening well. 5 Barriers to Connecting Think of connecting as a soft skill: A sideshow to the main task of preparing to win. Feeding the Champ; Fighting the Chump

AASP

<p>The way athletes talk to themselves matters. Inside the mind of every athlete exists a duo of conflicting characters – two internal narrators who comment on everything. The other is more sinister – it is pessimistic, fearful, and actively tries to keep you from your potential.

The problems with the push to make PE a core subject

The PE Hub

PE as a core subject. The recent Lords reports calling for PE to become a core subject giving it the same weighting as English, maths and science is something we would support, but what are the challenges? TES’s article exploring the issues around introducing more PE into primary schools raises some pertinent points. It is essential that teachers, pupils and parents understand the difference between PE, school sport and physical activity; these should not be thought of as one and the same

Ball Mastery Session Design

Player Development Project

Ball mastery is a fundamental part of skill acquisition and football development. The skills and attributes children learn and hone during this part of their footballing journey lay the foundations for more complex team-based and tactical learnings later on. A ball mastery session gives players the confidence to experiment with the ball and enjoy playing — hopefully providing the basis for a lifetime of participation in the sport.

The Alt/Par Cards: Rethinking The Roles Of “Non-Participants” In Physical Education

The Physical Educator

Tell me if you can relate to this: You’re about to teach physical education. You’ve got your whole class set up, you’ve got a great lesson plan, and you’re ready to rock and roll. Your students begin to arrive to the gymnasium when – all of a sudden – you notice that Timmy’s arm is in a cast. He comes up to you with a doctor’s note and a story that involves some sort of trampoline.
