OPEN and Rising New York Road Runners have joined forces to bring you The Adventure Mile for Middle School.

This new instructional module provides over 100 pages of fitness running instructional tools with fun and cooperative learning activities that teach students about the physical, social and emotional benefits of fitness running as a lifetime fitness activity. Students will also benefit from the Form 101 component of this module, which teaches fundamental athletic skills, running posture, leg movements, and arm movements.

The Adventure Mile for Middle School is the perfect lead-up module to Fitness Running for High School – also brought to you by OPEN and Rising New York Road Runners.

VALUES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Students recognize the value of physical activity for physical, emotional, and mental health.

  • Personal Health (6) Describes how physical activity positively impacts the body to promote good health. (8) Seeks out and identifies physical activity options to enrich physical, emotional, and mental health for self and others.
  • Personal Challenge (6) Recognizes individual challenges and copes in a positive way, such as extending effort, asking for help/feedback, and/or modifying the tasks. (7) Generates positive strategies such as offering suggestions/assistance, leading/following others, and/or providing possible solutions when faced with a group challenge.
