The Relentless School Nurse: Wear It Wednesday & Share a Selfie Using #SchoolNurseSolidarity

Today’s guest post is from our friend Holly David one of the moderators of the private School Nursing Facebook group! Holly came across a post from one of the members who shared this message:

“I love this group!! From what I have seen, we ALL need to come together across the nation as ONE!!

Let us have our day that we dress up the same!!! How many of y’all will join me?!? We can wear the same color… as simple as that. What day should we do it?!? Love y’all and love this group! You guys keep me going and now I know I’ll never be alone in our special work as a School Nurse ”
Here is what happened next, according to Holly:

So this inspired me to come up with a post to gauge interest and take a poll:

“Let’s unite our group with a “Stand Together in Solidarity” Campaign. Introducing the #SchoolNurseSolidarity campaign – every Wednesday, school nurses across the world are invited to wear blue as a symbol of solidarity and support for one another in our shared mission.

Whether you work in a bustling metropolitan school or a small rural district, we all understand the challenges and rewards of keeping our students healthy and ready to thrive academically.

When we stand together – even if only virtually once a week – we can share insights and encouragement that make us all better at caring for our school communities.

So don your blue attire each Wednesday, snap a selfie, and post it on our Facebook group tagged #SchoolNurseSolidarity with a brief note sharing an uplifting story from your week, insight other nurses can learn from, or a simple shoutout to a fellow school nurse who could use some encouragement.

Let’s make Wednesdays a vibrant display of unity as we come together across districts and demographics in support of student health and wellbeing. When we stand in solidarity, we stand stronger for our beloved students! Does this sound like something you would like to part take in? “

The poll yielded very positive support to move forward and finally, I designed the ‘Wear it Wednesday’ post which will reoccur daily to reach all our members. So let’s continue to spread the campaign far and wide to create togetherness even when we feel many times like Robin Cogan has said, “we are on islands all by ourselves.”
