The holiday season is a special time of year, but it can be difficult for patients in the hospital who are away from home and their loved ones. Fernando Hurtado, a social work resource coordinator at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, has organized a toy drive to ensure that every patient in the hospital receives a special gift this holiday season.

Where Do All the Runners Go?

I recently watched an elementary school cross-country meet and was struck by the amount of talent that ran past me. I don’t know what it’s like in your region when it comes to cross-country participation, but our elementary school numbers are quite high. The meets in our area regularly draw between 600 and 1600 runners. Yet our high school participation has declined to the point that some age-group races have only 20 athletes standing on the line.
