Kudos to the Maine Department of Education (DOE) for recognizing the impact of COVID-19 on their school nursing workforce. They are implementing innovative programs to INVEST in school nurses, including supporting national certification and providing funds to not only sit for the exam but to prepare as well. I am inspired by this program and believe it is a roadmap for all other DOEs across the country who are looking to support their school nurse workforce.

Can Physical Education Unite a War-Torn Country?

When it comes to physical education, it seems that Uganda is more advanced in its thinking than many North American school boards. Rather than firing PE teachers and cutting PE from school curricula, Uganda’s ministry for education has announced that they’ll be recruiting 3600 new physical education teachers over the next two years. In justifying this expenditure, the minister stated the well-known (but often ignored or misunderstood) rationale of improved health among students.
