When I started middle school, there was no girls soccer team, and it didn’t occur to me that I wouldn’t be allowed to try out for the boys team — so I did. I lasted one day.

We were a very middle class family, so going to a game was a stretch, but schools in the St. I did play summer rec league softball for a couple of summers, but in school, there was nothing we were allowed to play.
